FAQs

Counselling is a safe, confidential space where you can talk with a trained professional about what’s on your mind. You might want to better understand your current situation, work through a difficult experience, or explore ways to change unhelpful patterns in your life.

Some people come to counselling to manage emotions more effectively, strengthen relationships, or find clarity in a time of transition. Others simply want space to reflect and grow. Whatever brings you here, counselling offers support, understanding, and the opportunity to move toward a more fulfilling way of living.

Counselling offers a supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It can help you:

  • Understand yourself more deeply

  • Manage stress, anxiety, or low mood

  • Improve communication and relationships

  • Build healthier coping strategies

  • Navigate life changes or challenges

  • Grow in confidence and self-compassion

It’s a space for reflection, healing, and personal growth—at your own pace.

While both support mental and emotional well-being, counsellors and psychologists have different areas of focus.

Psychologists are trained to assess and diagnose mental health conditions and often work with more complex psychological concerns. Their approach is typically clinical, grounded in research, and guided by formal diagnosis.

Counsellors offer support around life challenges, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth. They don’t provide diagnoses but can help you explore and manage the symptoms or experiences you're facing. Counselling tends to be more relational and conversational, which can feel more approachable and less formal.

Sessions with a counsellor are often more cost-effective and can continue for as long as you find them helpful.

First session: You'll complete a short intake form to help us maximise our time. In this session, we’ll explore what’s bringing you to therapy, clarify your goals, and begin understanding how best to support you.

You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you like, and can bring anything that helps express your experience.

Session length:

Individual Counselling:

Initial sessions are 90 minutes and ongoing sessions are 75 minutes.

Couples Counselling:

Initial sessions are 90 minutes and ongoing sessions are 75 minutes.

Child & Adolescent Counselling:

Parent sessions and child sessions are both 75 minutes

Individual Counselling (4-10 Sessions)

The number and frequency of sessions vary; many people feel supported after 4 - 10 sessions, while others continue longer. Sessions often start weekly or fortnightly and may be spaced out over time. During difficult periods, more frequent support can be helpful.

Couples Counselling (8-20 Sessions)

Couples counselling uses Emotional-Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method to improve communication and strengthen connections. Depending on their needs and goals, most couples attend 8–20 sessions.

You don’t need a referral or mental health care plan to see me. If you have one, you’re welcome to bring it - it may help me better understand your needs.

Please note: I do not offer bulk billing. All sessions are privately billed.
